How does COVID-19 spread?

COVID-19 primarily spreads through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, talks, or breathes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

Additionally, COVID-19 can spread by touching surfaces or objects contaminated with the virus and then touching the face, especially the mouth, nose, or eyes.

It's also possible for COVID-19 to spread through airborne transmission in enclosed spaces with poor ventilation, particularly in situations where there is prolonged exposure to respiratory particles produced by an infected person, such as in crowded indoor settings.

While less common, transmission can occur through contact with infected individuals who do not have symptoms (asymptomatic) or before they develop symptoms (pre-symptomatic).
